The SILVERHAWKS - First tournament team breakdown

The first team on the list to breakdown is also probably one of the least known. The SilverHawks come from a cartoon that I was a big fan of as a kid. Created by Rankin/Bass Productions and released in September of 1986. There were a total of 65 episodes throughout the show's run.

The SilverHawks were the outer space equivalent to the Thundercats cartoon that was created by the same production company and debuted around the same time. (The Thundercats will get their own breakdown soon!)

Also just like the Thundercats, the SilverHawks had their own comic book that was published by an offshoot of Marvel Comics, Star Comics. Currently, the rights to SilverHawks is owned by Warner Brothers. The same studio that owns DC comics. Do I smell a reboot?

The SilverHawks story is basically this: A team of human heroes in the 29th century are given cybernetic bodies and hawk-like wings to battle organized crime in the Limbo Galaxy. They would battle the Mon*Star and his evil minions. Basically Thundercats and SilverHawks were the SAME EXACT SHOW, except for some obvious differences (hawks vs. cats, space vs. an alternate earth). Mon*Star and his minions were the same as Mumm-Ra and the Mutants in Thundercats, and producers even used the same voice actors from Thundercats for the SilverHawks.

TEAM MEMBERS:

Quicksilver - Captain Jonathon Quick is the former head of Interplanetary Force H and is the battlefield leader of the SilverHawks. He has a cyborg bird companion named Tally Hawk. He's known for his quick reflexes and even quicker thinking. He is also an accomplished tactician and athelete. His cybernetic enhancements allow him added strength, armor, and the ability of space-flight.

Lt. Colonel Bluegrass - 2nd in Command of the SilverHawks and the chief pilot for the team's spaceship "the Mirage". He cannot fly, but carries a guitar shaped weapon that he uses to shoot at enemies. The space gun not only doubles as a guitar, but also transforms into a hawk like android he calls Sideman.

Steelheart & Steelwill - Sergeants Emily and Will Hart are twins and the "gear heads" of the team. They share an empathic bond so when one feels something, so does the other. They are also physically the strongest members of the team and are the only members of the team to have their real hearts replaced with stainless steel hearts, which were implanted during their transformation. They both carry their own bird-weapons, Rayzor for Steelheart and Stronghold for Steelwill. Their cybernetic enhancements make them even stronger than ever, and like Quicksilver can fly in space.

The Copper Kid - The youngest member of the team, and the only one to wear copper colored cyber armor, as well as the only non-human member of the SilverHawks. He is a mathematical genius from the Planet of the Mimes and "speaks" in mathematically calculated tones and whistles. He is a natural acrobat and keeps two razor-edged discs on each hip, which he throws at enemies like frisbees. His weapon-bird is named Mayday.

THE ODDS

Compared to some of the other teams in this tournament, the odds are against the Silverhawks. However, any fight they're involved in will be a tough one for their opponents. The SilverHawks are fiercely loyal to each other and do not quit. They have battled super space criminals for their entire career. Guys like Mon*Star is no joke, but doesn't hold a candle to the threats other teams face. If I were to rank their powerset, I would say that despite their close relations to the Thundercats, the Silverhawks are still not as powerful as they are. They faced an intergalactic crime boss in Mon*Star, but even Mon*Star's powerset would put him at a City-level threat, maybe a World-level threat if he has a really good plan. Bottom line is, the SilverHawks have a tough road ahead of them if they hope to move beyond the first round.
