ANNOUNCING a Super Hero Team Tournament!!!!

Last night I got an idea. Friday Night Fights is a great concept and one that I look forward to writing every week. I was fiddling with an idea for a future fight involving an entire team vs. another. I think in the format I have set up for Friday Night Fights, it doesn't work for the team thing. SO INSTEAD, I thought why not have a March Madness style tournament, where I would randomly select teams and then discuss how the fights would go via The Good Shit Podcast (now available on soundcloud.com).

Jimmy and I try to record a new episode every other week, and this would be a great recurring segment! I could write it all out on here, but having at least 1 other voice to point things out in discussion is crucial to breaking down a tournament. Think of it as sports commentators talking about the March Madness tournament, Superbowl, NBA championships, or World Series in order to hype it up. Instead of just talking about it though, we will decide the victors.

So in order to properly do this, everyone involved needs to be aware of each team that has entered and what characters are on the team. There must also be rules. So here goes:

Teams have been chosen from the Comic Book world (Marvel & DC), television cartoons, and movies. A "team" consists of 4-7 members. Winners will be determined via group discussion. Factors for victory include: the team's powerset, history of victories and defeats, individual team members personal contributions, one on one showdowns during the team battles that would take the spotlight, possible quick elimination of weaker characters. Characters may be replicated and found on separate teams, but cannot face off against each other, however alternate versions can fight one on one (ie Superman can fight Ultraman). Each team will consist of members that make the team as formidable as possible. Example: the Justice League and the Avengers both have a ton of members, and since I am limiting membership to 7 at the most. The JLA and the Avengers will feature their most powerful lineups.

There is a total of 32 teams, so this is going to take some time. In order for EVERYONE to understand the teams involved, I will be doing a team breakdown on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (Thursdays will also feature a tale of the tape for the next Friday Night Fights). #GoTMondays and Friday Night Fights will still take place every week and will NOT be affected by the tournament.

Members of each team have yet to be determined. I believe Jimmy and I should decide on the members of teams before they face off, BUT I alone picked which teams to include. With help from my beautiful wife, the teams were drawn from a hat and placed into a group of six, then I rolled a 6-sided die to determine the order each team would place in the brackets.

Now, I am proud to present to you: THE FIRST ROUND MATCH UPS!!!

GROUP 1
The SILVERHAWKS vs. The TEEN TITANS
The SINISTER SYNDICATE vs. The GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
The X-MEN vs. MUMRA the Everliving & the MUTANTS (from Thundercats)
The CRIME SYNDICATE vs. X-FACTOR

GROUP 2
The MARAUDERS vs. The INHUMANS
MASTERS of the UNIVERSE vs. The JUSTICE LEAGUE of AMERICA
The THUNDERCATS vs. The AVENGERS
The LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN vs. The UNIVERSAL MOVIE MONSTERS

GROUP 3
YOUNG JUSTICE vs. CINEMA GOODIES
The DEFENDERS vs. JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK
The TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES vs. The LEGION OF DOOM
SKELETOR/HORDAK & GOONS (from Masters of the Universe) vs. X-FORCE

GROUP 4
The BROTHERHOOD of EVIL MUTANTS vs. The SINISTER SIX
The WATCHMEN vs. APOCALYPSE & The 4 HORSEMEN
The REAVERS vs. the FANTASTIC 4
CINEMA BADDIES vs. SUICIDE SQUAD

There are some really great matchups for the first round! Obviously some teams have better odds than others, but that's how tournaments really go. The rules I listed above are not final, after a discussion with my co-host we may add more.

Until the members of all teams are determined, my team breakdowns will start with teams that have pre-determined members ie the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or The Watchmen. Teams like the Avengers, JLA, X-Men, X-Force, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, the Masters of the Universe (also the Skeletor/Hordak team), Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Apocalypse and his 4 Horsemen, G.I. Joe & Cobra, Suicide Squad, Legion of Doom, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Defenders will all be discussed prior to their individual breakdowns.

This is only the announcement! NOW, CLICK HERE FOR THE FIRST TEAM BREAKDOWN!
