Summer is over *frownie face* and Winter is coming *sticks tongue out* so the GoT internet community has quieted down some. Theories are still running rampant, but every theory that I have read about or viewed on youtube, doesn't seem to hold up enough. The theory trend, these days, seems to be about specific characters and that they might not be who you think they are. Example: Tyrion is actually a Targaryan (only theory that holds water), Rhaegar is still alive (give me a break), Mance Rayder is actually Rhaegar Targaryan (seriously?), and that Daenarys has another brother who is still alive (could be true).
Since we're nearing the end of the show's run, I don't really think there will be many more secret character reveals. After Jon's resurrection, and the reveal of his true parentage, there's really only room for 1 or 2 major character reveals. Everything done from here on out will be in support of the final storyline. Season 7 will have it's own main plot, of course, but the major plot twists and character reveals will (most likely) have more of an impact in season 8 then 7. Follow me?
So, for today, I'm picking my favorite characters and will offer what I think will happen with them next season. All of my own ideas are based on information I got from the books and the show.
Jon Snow - Now the King of the North, Jon is a major part of the war to come with the White Walkers. Since Jon has never had any desire to travel South, I seriously doubt that he'll have any interest in who is sitting on the Iron Throne. Jon knows that the more serious threat is to the North and will therefore focus all preparations for that coming battle. What will draw a lot of focus in Season 7 will be his relationship with Sansa and also Littlefinger.
We know that Baelish has some influence over Sansa, whether that influence will affect her relationship with Jon remains to be seen. That look that Sansa and Baelish exchange after Jon is named King of the North raised my eyebrows. The popular theory here is that Sansa will marry Jon and then betray him because (per the theory I read) she is jealous of the Northerners accepting him as their leader over her. I have never been a big fan of Sansa, having felt like a lot of her decisions were because of her youth and what she believed to be "the way life works". She's only recently shown the Stark strength, and stood up to Baelish's advances. Whether or not she'll continue to support her family or if she'll break under the pressure of Littlefinger's ambition. We know he wants to be King, and will do whatever it takes to get there, even if that means destroying everything else around him.
Jon will be focusing on matters in the North, but also have to deal with the family intrigue as well as discovering his true parentage for himself. I also think Bran will have something to do with this in some way.
Daenarys - As I've said before, Dany is headed to Dragonstone. She'll arrive and retake the fortress just like her ancestors did. This news will be brought to Cersei's attention and then one of the classic showdowns we've been waiting for will happen. However, I don't think Dany will sit on the Iron Throne. There's going to be some other major event that will stop her from sacking King's Landing. Something will turn her attention to the North, either the Jon Snow reveal or the fall of the Wall.
I also think there will be a showdown in King's Landing, which could the great battle scene we've been looking forward to, but I'm not certain it will involve Dany. Let's take a quick look at how that fight would go right now.
Cersei is the "Queen of Westeros" currently, and has command over the Lannister army and anyone else that is loyal to the crown. This could be any number of smaller houses, but that's really it. Cersei has stirred up so much shit, that all of the allegiances that her father Tywin worked hard to build, have crumbled away. NO ONE LIKES CERSEIS, so why should they fight for her? Things will prove to further be a problem when the allegiance between Highgarden, Dorne, and Dany is revealed. Highgarden and Dorne are the last of the big houses (besides the Starks, Tullys, and Arryns) in Westeros. The Baratheons are gone, even the bannermen of the Stormlands are not as strong as when Robert was King, so Cersei can't count on them. Seriously, she's really screwed things up and I think season 7 will reveal just how bad she's made things.
I don't think Dany will ever even meet Cersei face to face. I'm almost certain that Cersei will die at the hands of Arya, in a moment that no one will see coming. Dany's story is going to be about her landing, taking Dragonstone, and then building support around Westeros.
TYRION - I love this guy! Tyrion will be instrumental in Dany's conquest of Westeros. Tyrion will be the one to travel North to Winterfell and treat with Jon and Sansa. This will add yet ANOTHER level of intrigue to the relationships up there. Tyrion is the only one of Dany's council that not only knows Jon and Sansa, but is moderately friendly with them. Jon might still think that Tyrion helped keep Sansa captive in King's Landing, but I think Sansa would step in and reveal Tyrion's true intentions. Even Littlefinger cannot deny the fact that a allegiance between Dany's forces and the Starks would be beneficial to all of them. Hell, Baelish might even have planned for this! Think about that for a second. Littlefinger seems to be a step ahead of everyone. There's no doubt in my mind that he's aware of Dany's movements, and also of the allegiance of Dorne and Highgarden. Also, remember that he gave Lady Olenna a "gift" just before he left King's Landing for Winterfell.
Another possible direction for Tyrion to go is as an envoy to King's Landing. He does have unfinished business there with his siblings, his arrival and new position of Hand of the Queen could really shake things up for the Lannisters. Although, I do think this would be Dany showing her hand too quickly. She's in good shape with the Dothraki Khalasar, the Dornish Fleet, her own armada that includes some of the Iron Fleet, plus the 2nd Sons and her dragons. Dany's forces are intimidating, but also complete strangers to Westeros. She needs domestic support from even the smallest houses in the country. Ever since Robert's Rebellion there's been whispers of support for a future Targaryan.
That's all for today. I have a lot of reading and re-watching to do, but I think I will continue with posts like this. There's a lot of clues that could help tell us where our favorite characters will wind up, and I left out a lot! Bran is a big one, he's going to have some major impact in the next 2 seasons. The men of the Night's Watch still have a role to play as well. There might only be 7 episodes in the next season, but you know that they'll be chock full of awesomeness.
What do you think is going to happen to your favorite character next season?
