He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (MotU) will forever hold a place in my heart. I LOVED this cartoon when I was a little kid! I had a bunch of the toys and played with them all of the time. A few years ago, He-Man and the MotU popped back up on my radar when they did a comic book crossover and fought the DC Universe. That was a lot of fun for me and also helped inspire this tournament. Anyway, here's the team.
He-Man - alter ego of Adam, Prince of Eternia, and the Most Powerful Man in the Universe. He-Man is the defender of the realm of Eternia and the secrets of Castle Grayskull against the evil forces of Skeletor. Prince Adam is able to transform into He-Man by lifting the "Sword of Power" and reciting the words, "By the Power of Grayskull. I HAVE THE POWER!!!!" He-Man's sword is imbibed with the ancient mystical power of Grayskull and gives him great strength and speed. Far more than the strength of mortal men. He's been shown lifting icebergs and even mountains and hurling them at his enemies. The sword itself is indestructible, razor sharp and never dulls. It can also transform Adam's pet green tiger, Cringer, into Battlecat! An armored ferocious tiger. In the MotU vs. DC crossover, he went head on against Superman! The most powerful man in the world is not just a moniker, He-Man is fucking for real!
She-Ra - Princess Adora is the twin sister of Prince Adam. By holding aloft her magic "Sword of Protection" and saying, "For the Honor of Grayskull". Adora is transformed into She-Ra, the Princess of Power! She-Ra is known for her great strength, and while not as strong as her brother He-Man, She-Ra is able to lift buildings! Along with her strength, She-Ra is a highly skilled acrobat. Her sword, not only indestructible, it can deflect bolts of energy (magical and technological), and can shoot beams of energy from the stone in its center. This magic sword can also transform into different items that may aid She-Ra in some way. Upon command the sword would change into a shield, parachute, helmet, a rope with a grappling hook, and a boomerang. She-Ra isn't much for violence, despite all these abilities. She is more likely to use her wits to outsmart her enemies and therefore is a great asset to the MotU team that already has several great strategic minds. One last thing, like He-Man, She-Ra's sword can also transform her horse companion, Spirit, into Swiftwind, an armored, talking, winged unicorn.
Man-At-Arms - That's his title, I believe his real name is Duncan, but he's referred to by title. He is He-Man's closest ally and the royal "master of weapons". He serves Prince Adam's parents, King Randor and Queen Marlena of Eternia, and trained Adam as a child. As Prince Adam's mentor, he is one of only a few people that knew that Prince Adam was really He-Man. He is highly trained in hand-to-hand combat, skilled with melee weapons as well as ranged weapons. He's also a brilliant inventor, and builds most of the weapons used by the heroes that help defend Eternia. For this tournament, Man-At-Arms is getting some extra help from another MotU character, named Roboto. Roboto is sentient robot that helps out He-Man and his friends. Roboto and Man-At-Arms have worked together, with Roboto acting like an Iron Man suit of armor. Giving Man-At-Arms access to a larger arsenal of weapons and items contained in the suit, super strength, and armored durability. All of this combined with Man-At-Arms' genius-level intellect, and many years of military service, he is a perfect 2nd in command to He-Man. He is also Teela's biological father, not really important, just worth mentioning because she's next!
Teela/the Sorceress - Teela was raised and trained by her war veteran father, Man-At-Arms. When she grew up, she became the Captain of the Royal Guard. She is a highly skilled warrior who trained with Prince Adam, but was unaware that he was He-Man. It was revealed that Teela's mother was the Guardian of Castle Grayskull, the Sorceress, and that one day Teela would take her place and thus learning all of the secrets of the castle. This included He-Man, of course. During the just before the events of Eternity Wars took place, the Sorceress died and Teela took her place. Now, Teela is the most powerful magic-wielder on Eternia, think of her as the Sorcerer Supreme of the MotU. She has a wide array of magical and spell-casting abilities as well as a loyal Snakeman army that will do her every bidding. She also has telepathic abilities and can project her thoughts and image into other people's minds as well as sense their thoughts, emotions and motives towards others.
Stratos - the leader of a race of bird-like people who live in the city of Avion high in the Mystic Mountains of Eternia he is also a Heroic Defender along with He-Man and Man-At-Arms. Stratos has the ability to fly and can offer strong air support to He-Man and the MotU. Stratos also carries a rocket pack to fire upon enemies, as well as heavy melee weapons.
Fisto - This guy is an extra-strong warrior with an enlarged metal right hand. He uses the hand to punch and crush and smash people and things. He's been known to wield melee weapons as well, but primarily just sticks with the giant hand.
Ram Man - This was my mom's favorite character when I was a little kid. In the cartoon, he was this short and stocky guy with an armored flat head and spring-like legs that he'd bounce on and then ram his head into a wall or a castle door or whatever. In the updated version, he's still got the flat head, but he's much MUCH stronger looking, and I don't think he bounces on springy legs.
They might be unknown by most people, but I assure you this team means serious business. We don't have to wait too long for them to be tested either because in the first round they're facing the Justice League!
